On June
18, 2004, PAWWS to Heal took on its first client, Madison, a two-year
old child with Rett Sydrome Her therapist was having challenges
getting Madison to attend to her environment. Roxy, a certified
therapy dog, was brought in to assist. It was a profoud moment when
Madison began to bond with and attend to Roxy as they interacted.
After
that first success, PAWWS to Heal was officially incorporated in
August of 2004. Since then we have made strong connections with
local organizations like Restoring Hope, Interface, and Channel
Islands social service in California, and PAVE in Illinois. We have
successfully reached out to the community, participating in Kids
Fest 2005 and the Ventura County Sheriff 9K for K9 fundraiser in
November of 2004. PAWWS to Heal was featured on a Camarillo local
cable program in November 2004 for two weeks running. We also marched
in Camarillo's holiday parade in December, 2004. Through our outreach
programs, we are currently working with children through local therapists
in Ventura County. In 2005, we expanded our programs into Wisconsin.
We have 4 programs developed and continue to grow in ideas and therapy
animals. We've recently been featured on the Madison local news!
