I am
a survivor of sexual abuse which started at a very young age and
lasted almost a decade. In the 60's, the common solution to stop
the abuse was to counsel the abuser, not the victim. While struggling
with feelings of fear, anger and confusion, the only true comfort
I found was with animals. I truly had lost my childhood.
As an
adult, I focused my pain in trying to help others. Working as a
school bus driver I ensured the safety of disabled and neglected
children as they traveled to and from school. In 1988, I earned
my degree as a Registered Veterinary Technician, allowing me to
give the gift of healing back to animals. I used my knowledge and
experience to bring children and animals together in education programs.
In 1998, I volunteered at a temporary safe house that aided abused
children.
Out of
that experience, the concept of PAWWS To Heal was born. With help
from professional counselors, physical therapists and my expertise,
children will have a safe path in their journey through life in
a pawwsitive way.
